I scream – Hive and Nest
I love my treats. Oh yes I do. But ice cream has never been one of my favorites. It’s fine, but a total waste of calories, if you ask me. I’d rather have a cookie any day.
A couple of weeks ago I took the babies to our weekly playgroup. We met at Phil’s Icehouse (In Texas burger places are sometimes called Icehouses. Whatever.) which has an Amy’s Ice Cream attached to it. Amy’s is an Austin icon. There are several around the city, usually with huge lines. Not today, though, since it was only 11:30 am. ( I would never wait in line for ice cream!)

Since Ada has ice cream radar, we couldn’t escape the place without having some. I ordered a tiny Key Lime Pie-flavored ice cream. I was pleased to see that it had big chunks of graham-cracker crust, since that’s an essential part of the pie. I took a bite and

I saved the last few bites for Mister. He said it was too lime-y. That crazy man! As if such a thing were possible!
But this is not the end of the story. I was perusing the ice cream aisle a few days later, looking for something to go with India’s birthday cake. I came across a new Haagen-Dazs flavor:
Fleur de Sel Caramel (“Caramels covered in a chocolatey coating blended into caramel ice-cream with caramel ribbons and French sea-salt accents.”)
If there is one thing I love more than Key Lime, it’s caramel. I think, maybe, I might even like caramel more than chocolate. That seems very weird to say; like saying I have a favorite child. But I do have a crazy fondness for all things caramel.

(It needed about twice as many chocolate-covered caramels, though). I’m trying hard not to get addicted. Ice cream is just so “not me”. But it was all so wonderful. What a fantastic week, ice-cream wise.
(Tiffany, Haagen-Dasz is $5 a pint! Get Jared to help a sister out!)* *Jared–my dearest, best friend ever in the history of the world who is so very smart and handsome–works for Dreyers, the evil/wonderful company that makes Haagen-Dasz Fleur de Sel Caramel.
